While researching Spanish John McDonell`s family , I stumbled upon an old Posting by Donald Chisholm to the now defunct website Genealogy.com . In this Posting is mentioned a letter written by Spanish John McDonell to his son John McDonell and Dated 16 March 1800 , which included the following quote : ` Àllick burgh the King`s son who died by the fall of a tree last fall `. Since Deaf Alex McDonell tombstone is located just south of the replica log church in the Pioneer graveyard at St Andrews West Ont. , and it says something to the effect that he was killed by a falling tree in 1799 , it would appear that he was not a son of Spanish John

some observations which may or may not be correct and is subject to correction and further  clarification

Àllick burgh the King`s son who died by the fall of a tree last fall  This is Alex Bui the King’s son
Here the term “ King” , I believe belongs to a reference to John MacDonell who was married to a Catherine MacDonell

This Alex was married to a Janet Cameron who died in 1828

Why did William D Reid list a separate entry for Alex King's son and Deaf Alex, if they were the same person?

This Alex Bui [ Burgh] the King’s son and Deaf Alex MacDonell do not appear to be the same person. Even with some similarities, like they were both married to a Janet Cameron,  but there seems to be more discrepancies, like

Alex Bui lived on the 5th concession of Cornwall twp
while Deaf Alex lived on E half 10 south side Middle Branch, River aux Raisin, Cornwall twp.

Based on the notes of this web site, http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/mcdonell/305/ I think there are different 2 Alexander MacDonells that are being mixed  up

Names of children do not match

I do not believe that Deaf Alex MacDonell  was the son of Spanish John

All the above observations are subject to correction

take care and God Bless
